Free from the Stronghold of Betrayal

Betrayal stalks in darkness behind a deception guise that roots it. A perfect relationship reveals ulterior motives when betrayal takes over. What seems may not always be.  This stronghold is cleaver and may sometimes disguise itself  for years.

Betrayal uses gossip as its ally. Consider the betrayal of Jesus and how gossip moved throughout the crowd culminating in his death. Betrayal and gossip walk hand in hand in its host to shoot poison arrows at its target. Its motive: to kill, steal, or destroy. A faithful friend with a loyal heart sticks closer than a brother. But a brother or sister of gossip is sure to betray and eventually cause conflict and emotional pain.

Proverbs 20:19 A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.

If betrayal attacks, years of love, patience, hope, goodness, and all good things from above may be scattered and covered over by hurt. The only way to break this stronghold is with love from the blood of Jesus. A time is coming when betrayal will overtake believers. Family members of our own households and even family in Christ may give in to this vicious stronghold. Don’t let this be you.

Matthew 24:10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,

5 Biblical tips to overcome betrayal:

1. Loyalty is your best policy. Stop this stronghold from entering before it comes near.

Matthew 7:12 So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets.

Proverbs 19:22 That which is desired in a man is loyalty and kindness [and his glory and delight are his giving], but a poor man is better than a liar.

2. Forgive quickly and easily before gossip, hate, and anger enters in and takes your life to a lower level. There’s no room for betrayal in a forgiving heart.

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15  but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

3. Be a blessing to others–particularly those of the household of faith.

Genesis 12:3 And I will bless those who bless you [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed [and by you they will bless themselves].

4. No gossip. Gossip betrays. There is no other way to explain this. The more you talk about someone else, the more likely you are to betray them.

Proverbs 11:13 A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.

Proverbs 19:5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he who breathes out lies shall not escape.

Leviticus 19:16 You shall not go up and down as a dispenser of gossip and scandal among your people, nor shall you [secure yourself by false testimony or by silence and] endanger the life of your neighbor. I am the Lord.

5. Set your mind on love. Love covers a multitude of sins and love never fails. There is no betrayal in true love for brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter, friend, spouse, etc.

1 Corinthians 16:14 Let everything you do be done in love (true love to God and man as inspired by God’s love for us).

1 John 4:8 Anyone who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love.
